Terms and Conditions for participting non profit organisations
The Vodacom Change the World public participation platform provides a web and mobi-site that provides information about non-profit organisations with the aim to allow the public to voluntarily donate money, goods or their time and skills to these organisations.
The Vodacom Foundation, a division of Vodacom (Pty) Ltd based at Vodacom Corporate Park, 082 Vodacom Boulevard, Vodavalley, Midrand, 1685 (“Vodacom”) is the benefactor of Vodacom Change the World programme (“CtW”).
Vodacom’s decision on all matters pertaining to Vodacom CtW is final and Vodacom will not enter into any correspondence of whatsoever nature once a decision has been made. Vodacom may modify, terminate or suspend the CtW public participation programme in whole or part, at its sole discretion.
These Terms and Conditions shall be subject to South African law and governed by the exclusive jurisdiction of South African courts.
General
Participating non profit organisations agree to release and hold Vodacom, its Foundation, agents, Vodacom Group, its subsidiary and affiliated companies, together with their respective employees, officers, directors, agents and representatives, harmless from any and all losses, damages, rights, claims and actions of any kind for participating in Volunteer activities in the form of donations of goods, cash, skills or time at the NPOs hosted on this platform/programme. Provided that nothing in these Terms and Conditions will in any way limit any party’s liability for death or personal injury caused by its negligence.
Promotional materials relating to the public participation website form part of these Terms and Conditions. In the event of any conflict between terms referred to in such promotional materials and these Terms and Conditions, these Terms and Conditions take precedence.
Except as expressly stated in these Terms and Conditions, Vodacom shall not be responsible for any expenses that NPOs incur as part of being listed on the CtW public participation site.
Responsibilities of the Host Organisation (non-profit/NPO/NGO/Charity)
Host organisations must recognise volunteers as a vital human resource and thus commit to the appropriate systems and infrastructure to ensure effective volunteering contributions.
Every organisation planning to use the services of volunteers must have a Volunteering Policy. This Policy should be shared with permanent employees, volunteers, and where appropriate with the beneficiaries of the organisation. When the volunteer arrives she/he must be introduced to permanent staff and the agreed volunteering tasks or role clearly explained to all concerned.
SMS donations
Vodacom Change the World public participation via SMS donations is an initiative of The Vodacom Foundation Trust (“Trust”) in association with Vodacom (Proprietary) Limited ("Vodacom"). Vodacom Change the World will enable you to make a donation to an identified NPO listed on the Vodacom Change the World public participation site.
By donating towards this Vodacom Change the World (CtW) NPO, you accept these terms and conditions.
Vodacom subscribers
- Vodacom Change the World is available to Vodacom subscribers - Pre Paid, Post Paid, and Top Up as well as subscribers from other South African networks.
- Vodacom Subscribers are able to donate an amount from R5 up to R200 to the SMS shortcode 30100.
- When you agree to make your donation, the amount you wish to pay to your selected NPO is deducted from your Pre Paid credit or added to your Post Paid account and transferred by Vodacom to the Trust’s bank account administered by Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr Incorporated Attorneys ("CDH"). The donations will then be transferred by CDH to the selected NPO (within the timescales as may be agreed between the Trust and the relevant recipient NPO).
- Neither Vodacom, the Trust, nor any of their respective agents will deduct or retain any portion of the donation Vodacom customers make using Vodacom CtW, nor receive any commission, interest, rebate or other profit on any donation.
- The only charge to a Vodacom customers is the amount of their donation, which will be received by the NPO in its entirety.
- No refunds of donations are available.
- Vodacom customers may make more than one donation up to a maximum of R200 per month.
Non Vodacom subscribers
- Subscribers or customers of other South African networks are able to donate a fixed amount of R30 to the shortcode 42600. They will be able to donate more than R30.00, by SMSing to the shortcode, multiple times. These SMSs and the value of their donation, will then multiply by R30.00 each time. For example:
1 x SMS = R30
2 x SMS = R30 x 2 = R60 donation
3 x SMS = R30 x 3 = R90 donation
- Although neither Vodacom, the Trust, nor any of their respective agents will deduct or retain any portion of the donation made using this code, nor receive any commission, interest, rebate or other profit on any donation, applicable rates charged by the users network will apply to this donation.
All donations
If the donation cannot be paid to, or is declined by, your selected NPO for whatever reason, the Trust shall be entitled to distribute the donation equally amongst all of the NPOs on the Vodacom Change the World programme. By making a donation, donors consent to the use of their donation for general charitable purposes in such circumstances.
Website and Mobi content
Content provided by NPOs registered on the site
- NPOs are not to upload content without permission, including but not limited to, images and text in breach of any copyright or other Intellectual Property laws.
- Vodacom CtW reserves the right, but not the obligation to moderate content, in its sole discretion, refuse and/or remove any content that is provided by the NPO. Vodacom CtW also has the right at its sole discretion to edit and/or refuse to distribute any such content.
- NPOs will retain ownership of all copyright and other Intellectual Property rights in and to the content and information they post on the platform. However by submitting, posting or distributing the content on Vodacom CtW, NPOs grant to Vodacom CtW, the non-exclusive, transferable, royalty-free, sublicensable, worldwide license to use any of your NPOs content in any manner whatsoever on and in connection with Vodacom CtW.
- Vodacom is entitled to make whatever technical changes to an NPO’s content or information as may be necessary in order to comply with whatever technical requirements there may be for purposes of encrypting, transmitting or distributing the content through any means or devices.
- NPOs are responsible and remain liable to Vodacom for or any third party in the event of any damage or negative consequences arising as a result of the content.
- Vodacom shall not be liable to NPOs or any third party for any consequences or loss incurred as a result of any reliance on the completeness and accuracy of any information or content posted on the site by the NPO or any user.
Content provided by Vodacom CtW
- Vodacom CtW shall remain the full title owner of any and all rights associated with any content which it makes available on the platform. NPOs are only entitled to use this content or information for purposes strictly associated with the platform on the terms and conditions set out herein.
- NPOs will not use any of Vodacom logo’s, trade names, trademarks, domain name and/or any of its distinct features for any purpose other than as anticipated in the platform without Vodacom’s written permission.
- Vodacom CtW will not be liable to the NPO or any third party for any consequences or loss incurred as a result of any reliance on the completeness and accuracy of any information or content posted by Vodacom CtW.

- Individuals planning to volunteer must behave in a responsible and diligent manner at all times while volunteering. Individuals need to:
- Act in accordance with the values and goals of the organisation and respect and conform to existing systems and procedures
- Conduct themselves with dignity, courtesy and consideration and establish respectful and cooperative relationships with all stakeholders
- Dress appropriately and provide themselves with sun protection, water etc
- Refrain from smoking while volunteering and do not use alcohol or drugs

By donating via SMS using Vodacom Change the World you accept these terms and conditions:
